Honestly pretty bad. I don't understand why people like this movie so much.
It's too goofy to be taken seriously during the serious parts, and most of the characters are so bland and uninteresting that it's genuinely hard to care about them. The twins are just creepy and have nothing interesting to show. The love story between the son and the girl is generic and shallow. The story feels like it was written by an 8 year old trying to emulate what he hears the adults talking about as he tries to make sense of it all in his head. Same goes for the humor.
I guess the only good thing about this movie is it's only an hour and a half long, but there are WAY better movies you could watch in that time.
I understand that a lot of people like John Candy, but it's not fair to act like everything he touches is gold, including this movie. He was definitely a good actor, but 1 good actor doesn't make a good movie. A movie is a complete package, and just because you think 1 aspect of it is good, doesn't mean the rest is. It's a composition fallacy that people use every time they talk about this movie, and I don't think it's fair to judge the movie this way.
You like it? Fair enough, but you need to like it in spite of it's flaws. If you can't do that, don't expect to be taken seriously as a film critic.
