I wanted to like this, but it was just too slow. It's got the right sort of subject matter and a fantastic cast, but it was a slog to get through. So boring that halfway through it I had to grab my tablet and play a game while watching it.
A compelling three hour movie is fine, but when you're watching paint dry it feels like three hours is nine hours. I was happy when it finally ended, not because it stirred any emotion but because I was glad to be done with it.
tl;dr version: this movie is at least an hour too long, maybe an hour and a half too long . . .
