Ehhhhh…. Not QUITE what I expected.
Performances all around were riveting and it’s really about all that saved the film for me. Wagner Mora, as always, stole the show. Kirsten Dunst was… well, Kirsten Dunst. I feel like more could’ve been done to give her character a little more depth.
What I thought would be a gut wrenching, controversial, thought provoking story about the cause and consequence of a divided America torn by civil war - wasn’t much more than a story about journalists in a combat zone. Any combat zone. If anything, it reminded me of the 1986 film Salvador. Only that those events that form the basis of the film, actually happened.
Then of course, there’s the issue of tactical accuracy. *SPOILER ALERT*
Sorry, but Apache gunships aren’t going to hover feet from a target and blast away with rockets. They’d send a missile from over 5 miles away.
