This is a pretty awful show - coming from a person who watched it before reading the books:
A) It's totally woke - in the first season, their is a homosexual scene, 2 or more sex scenes, and a VERY feministic viewpoint. Gay people or references are constantly brought up throughout the show.
B) Poorly portrayed & Obnoxious characters - Nynaeve is the most annoying person ever, not only is she FAR more annoying in the TV show than the books, she is the most feministic stuck up stupid repulsive human being ever, and she's not even that pretty! I thought Lan's character was one of the few decently portrayed characters in the whole show, and I was DISGUSTED by his and Nynaeve's romance! not only is it inappropriate, the way they cast it, it feels like they were so not meant to be! Also whats up with all the different ethnicities? There is both Icelandic, American, African, and INDIAN all in the same village, it makes NO sense at all. On top of that they aged the characters up several years. Why would they do this? I do not know, but the fact that in the book they were 16-17 years old is a HUGE difference! Young teenagers facing the end of the world, the coming of age, the character development, the life lessons, not 20+ adults who know everything!
C) Boring, and unnecessarily Gory - I have to say after the first couple episodes, this is no Downton Abbey, they added PLENTY of action, and drama, and more than enough gore, but why is it not interesting? why I am I not holding my breath in suspense and doing everything in my power to be able to watch this every Friday? Because it's not engaging or presented well, I have no connections with any of the characters, honestly the only characters which I really liked and thought did a really good job, were Moraine, Lan, & Mat. I don't mind a little gore, but the amount they put in this show was completely unnecessary, and stupid, they were just trying to add action to the show, but as I stated above I was completely unengaged with the story, and the large amounts of gore did not add to my interest.
D) Terrible CGI - When I saw the episode with the ogre, I was SHOCKED at how bad a job they did with him, the way he talked was stupid, and everything he said was cheesy like the director was trying to make you like him, except not trying hard enough. The trollocks were better than the troll, though still not done professionally, although I am not a fan of CGI, I was very disappointed in their amateur job.
E) Shameful - For the amount of money that was spent on this show, I would hate to be Jeff Bezos, not only did they go completely off the books, the little that they based off of the books was focused on all the least important parts, and the rest is just added on. Putting the books aside this is still a really bad show, not having read the books when first watching it, I can verify it's not worth it, don't taint your mind with this terrible show, which was clearly made for the soul purpose of making a lot of money.
And, from everything I've heard from my Dad, and brother, about the books and how great they are, this is truly a shameful way to "honor" Robert Jordan, and I'm glad he isn't alive to see it.
The only good things I can say about this show, was that it had a nice intro, there was a whole tapestry thing that I thought was really cool and well done. Also they did a great job filming it, the cameras must have cost millions, and though this is a terrible show, I have to admit they got some cool shots.
