Film Review of Shershaah
The first thing that springs to mind as Shershaah unfolds is this: a war hero deserved a far more engaging and energetic film. It is a suitably solemn, restrained account of the brief life and career of a 25-year-old Army Captain who died fighting in the 1999 Kargil war, but it takes inordinately long to get anywhere near full throttle. Shershaah is a biopic movie dedicated on the life of the brave Indian soldier Late Captain Vikram Batra, an inspiring war drama of Braveheart and victories. It is one of the best war realistic films ever made in Bollywood. The film was a total justice to an army man’s life. The film showed how the army is committed for the safety of Kashmir people, countering the terrorists, gathering inputs, the coordination, teamwork and how brave our army men are. Film was mainly shot in Kashmir and I was stunned by the way the film was shot and edited, especially the gun scenes and the way it was shot at high altitudes. It was incredible. The songs of these movies were so soothing and lovely that I can’t express my words. Raataan Lambiyan by Jubin Nautiyal and Ranjha by B Praak were so good that it became an instant hit while Instagram was flooded with reels of these 2 songs. The film even had a touch of romance of Siddarth Malhotra and Kiara Advani for which Bollywood is famous. I felt personally that the way Siddharth Malhotra acted in this biopic was truly the best. The way he delivered the dialogues like “Dil Mange More,” “Live by chance, love by choice and kill by profession” were epic.
The film’s overall tone is obviously high on patriotism. Many combat scenes don’t reflect the large canvas that the film is set up on, perhaps more deserving of a big screen experience. Yet, as an industry, Bollywood has seldom churned out epic war films that have been critically and commercially acclaimed. By those standards, ‘Shershaah’ ranks higher than most of the recent war dramas and tells an inspiring story that needs to be told.
The source material of this film is so strong that it is bound to grip you once the men in uniform take it upon themselves to drive out the enemy and reclaim our land. ‘Shershaah biggest victory is its effort to recreate one of the most important chapters of our recent history with characters, who lead the way to a rousing climax. For me this film is a 5 on 5.
