Amy Winehouse was young enough to be my granddaughter, another generation altogether. Nevertheless I
love her music, her singing style, she was a one-off, a talented artist beyond words. I think the movie did a damn good job portraying her background, her journey to fame and emotionallly turbulent life which she so awesomely expressed in her music. Marisa Abela was convincing, quite outstanding in the very difficult role depicting the complex life of Amy Winehouse. Can't understand why so many pompous newspaper critics unfairly slated the movie, everyone I know who saw the movie as it raced along, loved and appreciated every moment of it.

The horrors of war, an extraordinary, harrowing story of a talented, strong, determined young man surviving the war and sadistic cruelty dealt out to him as a POW. Not an easy story to make a convincing movie of but we'll worth a watch!

Never heard of Aussie writer Tim Winton until I picked up The Shepard's Hut, only book in English where I was staying! After a few pages my reaction was to go no further for did I need to read the foul mouthed rantings of an uneducated low lifer? I reluctantly continued and gradually realized this was an extraordinary story of a human being and his instinctive determination to survive the disadvantaged awful life
circumstancess he found himself in. Had to leave the book behind before finishing.... gotta get my hands on another copy.......
