When he quotes the children who claim that the moon knows his name Piaget adds exclamation marks to show his derision of their childish world view. From an Ernst Machian sensationalist or phenomenalist perspective, the stuff of the world is our sensations, which are part of us and therefore alive, and therefore everything is aware of its name, since we are one, and all the names in history. Few people follow Mach, but his views are neither childish nor stupid.

Great book and very philosophical. This book, and its ending where the dummy encourages the ventriloquist to realise that really, there was only one of them all along, made me think about the possibility that I may be a kind of ventriloquist's dummy, except without the dummy, only the ventriloquised voice. Later it seemed to me that the possibility, was in fact the truth.
