I give it 4stars, 4 might have also been appropriate, but definitely not 5 stars. We just saw the movie tonight. We were disappointed actually. Well… I’m mixed about it. It WAS good, but it was not great. I remember when the original Beetlejuice came out. I absolutely love that movie. We watch it all the time. But… this one seemed confusing. It was like all over the place. I liked the beginning. I do want to see it again. We will be buying it to add to our fun and scary movie collection, not to mention we have the first one. This movie really plays off the first one, which we enjoyed but we were disappointed ! It was nothing like we thought it would be. When the movie started, about the first 15 - 25 mins, there were some laughs in the theater. But the rest of the movie, it was dead silent. We didn’t think it would have as much as tied into to the first movie but it did, which was great. It was confusing!!!! There were to many story lots going on, we didn’t understand the relationship with Lidyia, her daughter and the father. He eventually came into the movie but it was weird because they didn’t show much of their relationships at all. It seemed awkward. Michaels makeup was a mess!! A lot of his face was not painted white, it just didn’t look like the first movie. Oh, Then we have a dead boy who killed his parents… where was the story line in that? Then we have Beetlejuices ex… um why so much? It was confusing. It seemed like the movie was all over the place. None of these stories were explained! Ummmm the cake scene kinda felt like they weren’t sure what to do with that part of the movie. It was kinda weird. The famous beetlejuice song would have been most appropriate at that time in the movie, not the grave. The cake wedding part was to long and really was weird. We did enjoy it, we will buy it. BUT I’m not sure it was worth the movie theater ticket prices. It ended strangely!!!! It ended open, so I’d be thrilled if they made a third one, with a third generation. Especially since two of the main characters died, step mom could be one of the ghosts. But they cannot make another one without Winona or Michael, not for a third movie. It just wouldn’t work. Oh and we thought Winona played Lydia very strangely. She wasn’t like herself as a child and we thought she would just an older Lydia. She was flat and monotone like, not exciting or bubbly or strange. There were just to many stories going on without thoroughly explaining each one in detail. When we were leaving, looking at other theater goers looked confused, too! I suggest NOT going and paying high ticket prices and just wait! These are just my opinions. Don’t not see a movie if u think you’d like it. Everyone has their own tastes, and opinions. I’m just sharing mine. If I knew what I know now, I think I would have waited to buy the movie, or rent from Prime or something. But we did have fun. We enjoyed our 27th anniversary date night.
We reallllly MISS TIM BURTON movies, he’s a fav of ours and we see everything he’s made. We wish he did more movies, but this one was…ummm a bit weird but not in a great Tim Burton way.
I’m laughing reading the reviews. They read to professional and FAKE! Who honestly leaves reviews like some of these.
