I enjoyed 'Roma' but didn't love it. I think a lot of the superlatives heaped on it were more applicable to 'Capharnaum', which left me stunned speechless and should have got the Best Foreign Film Oscar.

Made in Japan, Shoplifters is slow, sad and very unusual, it forced the viewer to confront beliefs and values most would take for granted, and raised very important questions about what constitutes a family. I can't say it was enjoyable, but it certainly was worth seeing

I found it profoundly disturbing and moving, particularly because it is a true story and conversion therapy is still happening. Very well acted and directed. 4*
