I'm a little disappointed because I was really excited for this show to happen, and I really want to like it. I thought the fact that Riordan was so involved with the making of the show would have positive effects on the finished product. I guess there is some truth to this. Yet, Riordan disappoints in several aspects. There are some really great things about the show and others are baffling while others are just horrible. I understand that things don't translate to the screen exactly from the books. But I expected the portrayal of the characters to be more accurate. Many people have stated that Gabe is a disaster, which he is. I'm not sure what they were going for with Sally, but she's not the character I remember from the books. I don't know what to say about Annabeth. She was one of my least favorite characters from the books, which I'm sure may be an unpopular opinon, but it's mine.
And yet I feel the actress is not doing the character justice. Maybe she just needs more time to warm up, but her acting is stilted at best, which is a shame. I'm glad I didn't reread this book series in preparation for this show. I feel as though I would have been upset just as several others are due to inaccuracies between the show and its source material. Instead I can enjoy it somewhat. I really think they did an awesome job with the actor choices for Percy, Grover, and Chiron. These are all talented actors. I was pleasantly surprised with Aries and even Clarisse. Luke is pretty good as well. I mean the show is okay. I enjoy watching it for the most part. But it could definitely be better.
