Hanks delivers a knockout Private Ryan level greatest generation tribute in Greyhound. Actor Hanks can churn out these types of quiet heroic performances as easily as Ford could build bombers, but it’s screenwriter Hanks who damns all torpedoes by giving us a movie that tells an entire story through naval commands. If you are any kind of sea dog this movie is your dream come true. A thrilling, bloody game of Battleship written in steely gray tones, breakneck pacing and fresh new perspectives on the horror and immediacy of naval battles. I know this movie isn’t for everyone, but it aimed high and hits its target almost every time. The flashback Romance scenes between Elisabeth Shue and Hanks feel corny and superfluous compared to the bone chilling action, but that’s a quibble. I will watch this over and over, completely geeked out and grateful for this movie
