I watched this show for Seo Kang-joon and Kim Go-eun but was utterly disappointed (rather annoyed) with the overall storyline and specially with the male and female lead characters, so much so that I couldn’t bring myself to watch all the episodes, stopped after episode 11. The male lead is a highly manipulative person who instead solving a problem or talking to people about their mistakes, gets his revenge by manipulating people (not sure how that is the sign of a matured person) and doesn't even regret or feel guilty about the consequences of his actions and justifies them all along. When the female lead doubts/blames him in the beginning (even though he wasn't at fault), instead of clarifying the situation or talk to her or take any steps that a normal person would take, he manipulates a stalker to believe that she (female lead) likes him (stalker) and in turn the stalker does what he is good at, starts stalking and harassing the female lead. In the past, he is shown to have manipulated students from his school to beat up the second male lead and in the process destroys his career and his life, why, because the second male lead in spite of being his friend wronged him by talking trash about him behind his back or he and his sister were getting adopted by his (male lead's) father. Did the second male lead’s behavior was wrong, yes but did he deserve to have his career and life taken away for that, I don’t think so. On top of that through the entire series, he doesn't even believe what he did was wrong and justifies his behavior blaming the second male lead. Seems psychopathic behavior. There is always a right way to solve any problem which the male lead doesn’t seem to know.
Now, let us go to the female lead. Initially she fears the male lead because she could see through his manipulative behavior and see that him acting innocent was just that, an act. Later she realized that she might have been wrong in suspecting him of some wrong doings and starts to come closer to him. Then she says yes to dating him, why, simply because he asked. Later, even after hearing from multiple people about his (male lead’s) manipulative behavior and seeing it for herself, she continues to ignore and sometimes even justify it. Like when the male lead badly beats up a guy who hurt the female lead while trying to flee after a break-in (instead of handing him over to the police who were searching nearby), she justifies his behavior by telling herself that he did it for her. She being in fear of him getting mad or angry over something shows how toxic of a relationship it was.
I don’t want to even write about the second female lead who always acts super annoying and over the top.
The only character worth watching is the second female lead who although starts as an impatient, short tempered person but over the time grows to be very mature. He is also kind, empathetic, selfless, helps others (including the female lead and his sister, the second female lead) from time to time despite his sister’s horrible attitude towards him and others. He shows maturity by working even small jobs and later studying, learning piano, all the while working to earn money. His character was the only one which made this drama somewhat bearable.
All in all, I would never recommend this drama to anyone. I guess I watched even till episode 11 thinking that they would show a change in male lead behavior but his character development was on the same path, so couldn’t bear it anymore.
