I read this book a couple of times in the last few years. It is a parody of a parody which is all the South has ever been. Thompson demonstrates the spoiled, ranting, tantrum child the South has always been. When I was in school studying American history I never understood the desire to keep the Union whole with a region of greed, hatred and religiously inspired ignorance like the South. I understand it even less today. I say, let them go. But, when we go we have to tear down or destroy anything built with federal money. That would include ports, highways, schools, hospitals, airports, homes, etc. Let them rebuild it all on their Southern wealth. In fifty years, they will become, I believe, the world's largest narco-theocracy. I may seem extreme, but am I amore extreme than what the South has done in the last four-hundred years?
