Judge David Johnston was a much admired county judge. He worked tirelessly to gather and publish the information contained in this book. I have had the privilege of reading some of his personal correspondence to "cousin Amanda" that he wrote telling her of his trip to Charleston, S.C. and more. These letters reside in the Giles County Historical Society. in Pearisburg, Virginia. Judge Johnston began this work in the llatter1800s.
