I could not sleep Friday evening and went downstairs and turned on Netflex and there was Queen Charlotte. I watched the entire series from 2:00 a.m in the morning till the last moment of King George & Queen Charlotte's feet sticking out from underneath the bed. And, I sat and cried. I believe my favorite lines in the whole series was when he looks at her and say "you did not go over the wall" and she responds "no, George, I did not not go over the wall". The depth of which the writers went into his mental illness and his incredible despair in dealing with it... was heart-wrenching to say the least...Even today with all of the mental health assistance that is provided, including medication, there is still so much to be learned and I cannot imagine what he went through as the King, a husband, father and above all, a man. And, the helplessness that those around him felt that loved him.. to protect him.. just as we, as families do today with the ones we love. I have always loved history, and now I am totally intrigued with these two real persons in history that, from all historical accounts, truly fell in love with each other... her a 17 year old German princess not even able to speak English when she met him and he a 22 year old King.....I read that history recounts that King George and Queen Charlotte actually slept in the same bed together for years, which was unheard of... until his mental illness became so overwhelming that she was afraid to be alone with him.... a true love story and so beautifully portrayed.....
