Richard osman, what were you thinking?!
I have just finished reading We solve murders, and I have to say, it was not an enjoyable read. I had to force myself to push on purely due to the respect I have for his last books.
It was extremely disappointing,as the Thursday murder club series was absolutely brilliant, and I personally find it hard to believe that this book was written by the same author.
I kept hoping that at some point it would be an elaborate joke, but alas, no joke..
I find the fact that this is meant to be the beginning of a series ,quite alarming. ("Noooooo, please no more...!")
I won't spoil it, (unsure I can, sorry Mr Osman!) But the fact is. , it's just a poor rip off of the Thursday murder club idea, (Very odd to rip off your own story, but, here we are..lol) But with the small change of the bizarre team up of father in law and daughter in law.
A very unrealistic read, with unrelatable and quite frankly, characters that I didn't care about. Amy was written like a female Rambo(the best of the best with honors ๐ lol) with a none existent relationship with a husband she's never in the same country as, (and this is supposed to be normal) whilst she jet sets around the world with his dad. Who is just a boring character who feels like a poor man's Chris from the thursday murder club. With Amy being Terminator Donna. It was just silly.
To go from writing the Thursday murder club to this, well, I'm totally baffled as to what Richard osman was thinking. He clearly has a great skill in writing. And i cannot praise his last books enough. The Thursday murder club characters were solid and engaging. And felt like the reader could connect and relate. I absolutely loved reading them.
I know change can often be good. And he clearly thought he was trying something new, which is fair enough.. if it is new, and it feels authentic.
But also, I'm a great believer in sticking to what you know, and what works for u. The thursday murder club could have countless storylines, with endless fun. So why create another series about virtually the same thing?but with lame characters., and an unbelievable plot and daft stunts.?
If you haven't read the thursday murder club series, then perhaps this book would be a passable read to fill the time instead of watching paint dry.. But it's very hard not to compare the quality., after reading such an amazing series.
I'm still looking forward to the next installment of the thursday murder club. But im afraid i will give this latest 'series' a miss. Nice try, but a mistake after such a huge hit.
