Damn, Don't Nod does it again.
Lost Records: Bloom & Rage is a game that I was looking really forward to since Don't Nod originally developed Life is Strange 1, 2, and The Adventures of Captain Spirit (which are all amazing).
The game is divided into two parts, Tape 1 (called Bloom) and Tape 2 (called Rage, which will release in April). The game takes place in both 1995 and 2022. The protagonists are figuring out what went wrong in the past that caused them to not be in contact for 27 years. The story and characters explore curiosity, mystery, adventure, fears, teenage angst, and nostalgia. The camcorder mechanics is implemented well and I really like the personal touch of it (being able to re-arrange or replace footage). The supernatural aspects of the game are comparable to Twin Peaks and Stephen King's works, which is a nice surprise.
Tape 1 is mostly focused in character development. I can understand some of the criticisms of the pacing being "slow", so hopefully Tape 2 will have better pacing and will wrap the story and characters properly.
I hope Lost Records has the potential to become a series for Don't Nod. The choice-driven narrative and camcorder mechanics is something they can explore further in the future. I'm looking forward to completing the rest of Bloom & Rage's story once Tape 2 is finally out on April 15th.
If you like Life is Strange, I highly recommend you check out Lost Records: Bloom & Rage!
