WARNING - MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD!!
Iโm genuinely shocked by all the negative feedback and criticism this movie got. I thought it was amazing! I get that people are annoyed that the movie didnโt circulate around Laurie and Michael, and that it introduced a new character, but I think that from the other films (and other timelines), the underlying message is that evil can live in any small community, and become infectious. The new character Corey accidentally kills a young boy and is isolated from the Haddonfield community - branded as a psycho kid killer. When he meets Michael, and Michael strangles him, they look into each others eyes and Michael sees into Coreyโs soul, seeing his trauma, and then lets him go. Corey then kills the homeless man (who was shocked that Corey was let go)โฆwas Corey instantly infected with Michaelโs evil? I think this points out that anyone (even the timid Corey) can become infected with evil. Also - did Michael resonate with what Corey has been through? Was this a type of prequel in a way? We never know why Michael killed his sister, but was it a mistake all along and the town turned him into the boogeyman? Was the evil always there? Corey instantly kills after his meeting with Michael, and brings someone to Michael to teach him how to kill and allows Michael to kill him (making Michael stronger). Yes itโs frustrating not to know the answer to these things, but I think that adds to the lore of Michael Myers, and viewers get to decide themselves. He will always be this mysterious character and will always be the boogeyman. I will be honest and couldnโt understand why Allyson fell for Corey so quickly. But as Allyson mentioned when she told her grandmother that she was obsessed with Michael (and we know how Laurie could see Michael in Coreyโs eyes), does this mean that staring evil in the face creates this type of connection or obsession? And whilst from this timeline we donโt know why Michael is so obsessed with Laurie, she was the one that got away. Michael never leaves a victim so it becomes his mission to track her down. I thought the ending was great - all the movies focus on Haddonfield and the folklore of the boogeyman, and they are all there to witness this final death. And I think that his death being so certain makes the ending even better. It took 40 years but they got him. I think a lot of people wanted a bloody, action filled ending and arenโt looking at the bigger picture. I also read a review saying that โthe directors didnโt even bother to show Michaelโs faceโ, but again this adds to the mystery of the boogeyman. Movie reviews are so subjective, but I thought it was a great way to finish it all and with great character progression!!
