Take almost everything that makes The Great British Bake Off special - the warmth, the charisma, the firm-but-fair judging that also imparts some baking knowledge to both baker and viewer, baker profiles that allow you to get to know the competitors - and chuck it out the window. Nearly everything about this show exudes pomp and circumstance, including the judges and the incessant classical music. The judges are wholly unlikable and only rarely constructive in their criticisms; the hosts are (still) mostly annoying; and the bakers are rarely given a chance to shine. If this is supposed to showcase "world class" talent it doesn't really do a good job at that either, because setpieces fall apart every other episode and judge feedback is almost always negative.
