It has a diverse cast, and a solid message of empowerment and coming of age for Black/Hispanic urban youth. However, the writing shows a lack of research and as a result the characters are often caricatures rather than relatable individuals. Much of the delivery often feels sub par, which I don't know whether it's the ability level of the cast or the writing that's the cause. Tonally the show is all over the place, which I'm unsure if it's intentional. The story it attempts to tell is compelling enough to overlook OMB's significant flaws, that you'll likely be able to get through the first season.
