A difficult watch. Loved the cast, but the portrayal of the main actress (Marianne Jean-Baptiste) was difficult to watch due to her constant state of anger. Jean-Baptiste was excellent, but the film itself was exhausting. Could we have learned just as much about the character without her constant rage? Possibly. Would that have made the film more enjoyable... I think so.
That said, I think it was an honest and realistic portrayal of mental health challenges within a family. It illustrated the impact of childhood trauma on Jean-Baptist's life choices and mental wellbeing and sadly showed us how the cycle may continue in her own son. Not a lighthearted watch.
