While I think the acting in this movie is alright, the movie commits an absolute cardinal sin in writing, lying to the audience. Now lying to audience can work if you have an unreliable narrator which this film does however I donโt believe that was the point as it is revealed in the film that she was either tricked into thinking she was hit accidentally or knew she was actually hit. The thing is it obviously canโt be both, the plot twist at the end makes no sense whatsoever, the scene of Lilly being hit the first time is supposed to show that she truly believe that it was an accident and then later on realises that it wasnโt however in a scene in Roots, she doesnโt tell her ex that the hit was an accident and lets him beat her current boyfriend, the movie however is trying to say at this point she both knew and didnโt know, if she didnโt know then she is an awful person for not saying anything and letting the fight transpire, if she did know then the movie made a mistake and lied to itself.
They filmed seperate scenes for when Lilly is hit, ones where itโs an accident and ones where it was on purpose but you just canโt do that. You canโt show the audience something and then be like โThatโs not actually what happenedโ thereโs a reason English teachers banned โIt was just a dreamโ because itโs extremely cheap and basically cheating when it comes to writing. Take a show like Better Call Saul, thereโs and episode where a character reveals that they stole something from someone in a past scene and then replays the scene, the thing is itโs the exact same scene, they didnโt film a scene where he stole something and one where he didnโt, you just didnโt see it in the first time because you probably werenโt looking at what he was doing, thatโs called great writing, deceiving the audience not by lying but by not telling them everything.
Also Lilly Blossom Bloom who is a florist is something straight out of a kids book like damn thatโs something I would have come up with when I was 4
