The movie is empty. Here is some clues as to why this movie should not have been produced, or at least not with this branding. It is not in the same universe as 28 days or 28 weeks.
--SPOILERS--
0- Ending of the previous film? Dont give a shit, francie and europe is fine, dont worry about it, the infection killed ALMOST EVERYONE in 17 days in the UK but europe where it cant even be contained? Pfff magic i guess.
1- Past the introduction, only 2 people die from the infection (Edit: as in actually being infected). And we never knew their names. The movie tries to be tense but there is never consequences, unlike the prequels.
2- Someone who spent 28 years alone is more sane than most people from the prequels, which didnt even lasted a year.
3- A 12 year old is more competent to survive the most brutal infection known to cinema ALONE than a group of well armed soldiers.
4- All infected are naked, which is led to believe is because they reproduce, but no apparently not they just really like the last of us and wanted to make a "infected baby".
5- The soundtrack in a heartbeat is not in the movie, because no one dies, no one is abandoned and no one cares.
6-There is, in this movie, vector from despicable me and his adidas ninjas fighting infected WITHOUT any protections for eyes mouth or anything really. They do stunt like this is a completly different movie. And that is at the last second. If you wanted to put deadrising psychopaths in your movie, do it earlier.
This movie actually breaks my heart because i have always been a big fan of the prequels. Psychonogical horor in those is great and this movie want to start in the same track but fumbles right after.
If you plan on watching the movie, stop right after the introduction, and leave the franchise in a heartbeat. Because they sold its soul in a heartbeat
