Wildeโs strong acting performance is somewhat tainted by the lacklustre directorial efforts. The film had the potential to have been cleverly executed with a myriad of meaningful symbolisms and complex characters. However, the movie is a very surface level exploration of the large moral and social questions the film seems to ask us to consider.
There are numerous plot holes, which struggle to be overlooked and leave the watcher feeling dissatisfied. The ending does not seem to put our frustrations to rest, as it too lacks a satisfying conclusion that has depth beyond the obvious of an incel created virtual reality. It seems to be a film that has a beginning, middle and end; yet neglects the attention to detail in-between which ties each milestone together.
Stylesโ performance is embarrassed by the strength of Pugh; who unfortunately has to fight against the mediocre script.
