Feig made too many mistakes. To start with, the cast should not have been written as 4 comediennes. It should have followed the original formula. Straight man = Egon + Straight man with funny lines = Ray + Improvisational talent = Peter + Straight man = Winston. Instead he tried to make it too funny, and it fell flat. Ideally the cast would have involved someone like Emma Stone or Jennifer Lawrence, Kate was excellent and honestly carried the movie. I love Wiig and McCarthy in most of their other stuff, but this time it just didn't work. Reitman and Aykroyd worked, Feig did not and it's obviously not fair to compare it to the original, which is an all time great, but it's also inevitable. I blame Paul for all of the failures and I'm hopeful Dan and Jason make a gem for 2020.
