I Origin (2014)
Ultimately this movie fell short of my expectations. I did enjoy the movie, but thought it lacked some of the more trippy aspects I'd hoped to find in it. It left something to be desired as far as its overall philosophical rigor.
This movie was recommended to me by a co-worker years ago: From my conversations with her I think I expected a more spiritual version of Waking Life that had a more solid form.
More specifically I expected a film (based off of her recommendation) where the significance of 11:11 gets put into a realistic perspective: a possibly verifiable collective consciousness. Even if it's fictitious, if done well that kind of thought provoking material makes me really excited! I'm a big fan of Andy Weir, for example, who uses enough scientific reality to make bending the rules of reality believable. When done right these stories are my favorite kind. I was disappointed.
Having watched the film, I now think I Origin acts as a bit of a confirmation bias for those who already have similar spiritual leanings.
That being said the film is beautifully shot. The emotional aspects of the movie come through clearly, and the conclusion is relatively satisfying. It's a pretty good science fiction film, and it clearly has mass appeal.
I didn't hate I Origin, and I'm glad I gave it a shot. However, I wouldn't be broken-up if I never got a chance to watch it twice.
