When it comes to games labeled "souls, or souls-like games," you would expect a decent challenge. Lords of the Fallen is a video game that aspires to be a challenging and overall great experience for players who have previously played souls games. The theme and level design is excellent, the weapon selection is plentiful, and the different stats you can level up to decipher what you will become are just right. Another new, unique feature that Lords of the Fallen has brought to souls-like games is the addition of the Umbral Lamp, a distinctive item that lets you traverse realms to make discoveries and battle your foes. These are the great features of the game that you will come across if you decide to pick up this game at your nearest video game store or digitally. Now, we dive into the negative aspects of the game. Performance: I have played this game on the PS5 and have experienced terrible frame drops. As of right now, numerous glitches can lead to an unexpected demise. I believe a patch will fix these issues, but this is unacceptable for a new release. Gameplay: Your character's movement feels slow and dreadful compared to other games. The mobs you encounter have predictable moves, and the bosses are easy. The last negative issue I have is the soundtrack; in my opinion, it is bland and lacking compared to other Souls games. Overall: If you are a player new to the souls-like genre or a casual player looking to pick up a game that is not challenging, then I would recommend this game. Otherwise, if you are an experienced Souls vet who loves a significant challenge with punishing enemies and bosses with a great music score, then I would either wait for this game to go on sale or, if you haven't already, go and play the newly released souls-like game titled "Lies of P."
