People are hating on this movie just to hate on it. Most haven't seen it and are purley going based off of what they've heard.
As someone who's watched both movies, the musical aspect of this movie fits perfectly in this movie. The first movie saw Arthur dancing and having some kind of melody in his head and this movie we see what his mind looks like. I will say, it was a touch overdone but no movie is perfect.
Joaquin's performance as Joker, and the heart he put into this movie is really amplified. Anytime the Joker is demeaned for anything he does, I can't help but see a scared little boy trying to be a man.
And the setting is amazing! Having Harvey Dent be the lawyer against Arthur Fleck was so cool, but also very fun to experience. Two Batman villains in one movie done completely differently. And having Harvey be a young man in this movie was brilliant, as it means he's completely able to take on Batman once Bruce Wayne grows up.
Now onto the bad, which there is... a lot.
Jukebox Musical. It just means they use pre-existing songs and because of that, it takes away from the originality of the movie. It's pretty cool sometimes, but usually it just feels very unoriginal.
Harley Quinn felt a bit pointless, which could literally be fixed by actually building up a punchline between the two. As an example, in Joker (2019) Arthur Fleck is a comedian and at the climax of the movie, he kills Murray Franklin on TV following his "joke." This movie doesn't have that, and once it hits its climax it just immediately drops.
The ending leaves much to be disired and as much as I want to say it was a beautifully poetic ending, it wasn't. It felt like you got stopped on your way to see somebody, just to get shanked. It felt very abrupt, out of no where and almost like there was more story to be told.
I'm giving this movie 5 stars, but if I had to rank it, heres what I would give it:
Joker - 9/10
Joker: Folie a Deux - 7/10
