Visually stunning but that's about all it has going for it. Unfaithful to the book and unable to capture the deep spiritual, religious and emotional nature of the story. While, at times, there is intensity and visual drama , there is not enough support behind it to flesh it out and anchor us to the moment. It has uneven and at times subpar plot and character development and is largely boring despite the intense and stunning spectacle that it truly is. I rarely felt connected to the story or the characters and found myself looking at my watch by the end of the second act. I felt like I was watching an epic movie trailer for 2.5 hrs. As an incredibly massive fan of the books, the original film and mini series, I wanted to love Villneuves Dune but his blunt, brutalist interpretation fell short of my hopes. Could have been so much more than this.
