I have a handful of favorite Hallmark Christmas movies, and this one is #1. I love the scenery, the sense of family history and strength. Faith clearly intends to have a marriage just like her parents ("no need to compromise"). And when Sgt. Cody Cullen (Army) shows up on leave, brought to Nevada City by her Christmas note (plus handsome as all get out), and literally saves her father, well, she was a goner. It just took a while. The boyfriend-turned-fiance took a fatal wrong step by announcing to her that "marriage takes compromise".
I will admit, it's a bit on the corny side. But I don't care. Life can be hard enough, and a corny movie can help smooth out the bumps. The Porsche didn't make up for the fact that Paul was just not attractive. (I'm being kind here.) And a bit on the selfish side too, if I'm being honest. Handsome Cody gets seamlessly inserted into the family, the business and their home life. And he truly wants only the best for everyone involved, especially Faith.
I really wish that they had added another 10 minutes to the movie to show Faith and Cody coming home to the Spelman compound. At that point, Cody really and truly became part of the family. I wanted to be part of the joyous Christmas celebration that was sure to follow. A nice bow on top of a beautiful package.
