I came to this movie with an open mind and heart. Prior to watching, I played Final Fantasy XV. I enjoy the video game(even if the story is lost on me) but I couldn’t bring myself to fully enjoy Kingsglaive, though I so truly wished to. What Final Fantasy XV lacks in terms of story, the gameplay makes up for. Unfortunately, no amount of stunning visuals can enhance the plot of Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV. It had promise but couldn’t quite deliver that magic. I found myself not caring about what happened to the cast as they offered very little in terms of being relatable or interesting. Even the familiar faces(which are few btw). The plot itself felt like a tangled web that took nearly two hours to unravel but left us nothing fruitful. Think of it as one very long action cutscene and there’s not much there for as long as it is. Still, I wouldn’t call it a total waste of time—so 3 stars for effort and the spectacular animation!
