Between a third and half way through this book I decided to give up, skip to two thirds in, which I skim read a bit of and then skipped to the end and read the last few pages. I think it says a lot that I didn't really feel like I missed out on anything by doing this.
I will say that it's thought provoking at times and it illuminated aspects about publishing that I found interesting. I also take my hat off to writers who are exposing and getting audiences to think more deeply about institutionalised racism.
Beyond that though, there wasn't enough character development for me personally and I felt that we could've understood much more about June, her life, why she made the choices that she did. All the characters lacked depth so I didn't feel like I could get behind anyone.
Similar to other reviews, I found it repetitive and essentially, I'm sorry to say, I was bored. I really wanted to enjoy it but there's way too many other good books out there to enjoy so it was time to move on for me.
