Pros:
Seeing the zombie concept in an anime during Edo Period Japan was a true pleasure. I love samurai anime so I was glad to come across a futuristic anime that still have sword-wielding and semi-traditional kimonos. Each episode has you on edge and they all end at just the right point that leaves you yearning for more. There's a healthy blend of intense action, philosophical debate, and some hints of fandom couples.
Cons:
Some concepts seemed to appear and then drop without explanation. I think this would be a more fleshed out, provocative anime if it was longer. For example, there's only one wazatori. Well, how did the wazatori come to be and why aren't there more of them? Also, Biba is clearly a conflicted character but even his rationalize for destroying zombie-free stations doesn't seem to really make much sense. I also didn't get what would make people follow him when they know that he's making things worse, not better. The relationship between Ikoma and Mumei seems forced-fed to the fans. I can see why she falls for him but there was nothing that occurred that would make him fall for her. Also, there seemed to be a possible love triangle or coupling between Ayame and Ikoma that just disappears. There's no talk of how to completely get rid of the kabane. Eventually, won't all of the stations become tainted? Shouldn't they be after a cure instead of just going from station to station trying to survive? But, all in all, I'd definitely recommend.
