This movie is a sleeper. And a clever one at that. When I met Steven de Souza (the only time I met Steven de Souza) I went to his house to fix his computer, his production assistant at the time was a good friend of mine, and they were working on "Street Fighter." Had I only known he had done this movie, it's so plain to me that comedy was his true love.
It's the sort of movie that many wouldn't have taken seriously at the time because of its low-budget production, but should have been a cult classic by now. And, it also is likely not to appeal to everyone. Having been midway through high school when it was made, I think it would have been a hit at Hollywood High. It seems to have somehow fallen into obscurity until very recently.
A sort of tale in the theater of the absurd, three enterprising boys in their late teens find themselves in a Summer business venture that involves selling weed that quickly grows into a corporate empire -- and it blows up in everyone's faces, including the law's. And best of all, no one really gets hurt. A spoof that was ahead of its time, and if you love satire, this film is laced together with it.
I found it on Shout Factory TV, but it's apt to make the rounds on the various (generic) IPTV outlets in the not too distant future, now that selling weed has become such a part of daily life in the Twenty-First Century.
