The primary challenge in reading this book is the sheer number of actors on the stage. Some advice if you want to enjoy this book.
1. The beginning of this story starts at the end of another, in the middle of yet another, with a living world in the background.
2. If you want to get invested in the narrative, accept it is bigger than you, confusion is normal--enjoy it while trying to understand. Accept confusion but do not use it as an excuse to not try, or you will be confused for books, instead of moments or chapters. You really do get used to it.
3. Every time you come across a name, flip to the Dramatis Personae at the front to remind you of who they are. (Or you will not enjoy the book.) You will get used to it once you see it is required for enjoyment.
4. Accept you will still mix people up, for chapters at a time. It's okay.
I started GotM got ~50p in then dropped it. When I came back prepared for the scope 2yrs later, I loved it. An excellent book.
