I enjoyed "The Last Shift" a lot, a very campy flick, innovative with the obvious lack of resources they had to work with. I think the most powerful aspect of The Last Shift was its ability to create uncomfortable tension that stayed with you the entire movie. Malum fails at this miserably and instead relies on cheap jump scares to progress deeper into a lore that honestly was better left a mystery, like in the original. The need to explain everything just dumbs the experience....
