Honestly it's disappointing seeing so many people hate on this game for such dumb reasons. Sure the formula may be recycled but is that a bad thing? I personally love open world games and I love the RPG aspect of the newer gen of AC games.
The story itself has diverged from the original DNA of the game where it's a hyper secretive group of assassins but that's honestly to be expected. It makes sense to me that a group would grow and diverge, following a loose common goal but not ha e the same dedicated fanatics to a core idea that an original group followed because that is what happens all the time in real life. You can't expect the assassin's to maintain this secular focused mentality while also remaining a tight knit secretive group.
I've been waiting for a Japanese themed game for years now and I love this one as well. To people crying about how the characters can be gay or that one of the characters is black, honestly grow up. That's such a dumb backwoods Intel conservative mindset that it just comes off as racist and homophonic. And has no bearing on the game itself
The decision to use Yasuke as a protagonist to me was not a bad decision, if anything the worst thing you can say about it is that he stands out, which seems to go against the idea of a secretive assassin order, you would rather have a no name samurai who blends in with the background that someone who stands out both historically and in the sense that black people weren't common in Japan at that time. But it still gives you a good name to reference and let's you build an imaginative narrative of the person from ages ago.
Don't let the stupid review bombers discourage you, play the game for what it is. A fun assassin rpg in Japan. Like what could be cooler!?!? It reminds me of Ghosts of Tsushima, one of my all time favorite games
