I’m struggling to give it 3 stars, the list of flaws is pretty long, the class of boys dressed in clothes straight from Lowes (no wear and tear), no sun hats (seriously), no sherrin to kick, no old piano in the joint to accompany the hymns, the patch of grass-fire that didn’t race and spread, an aboriginal new boy who wasn’t really cheeky or funny or madcap. All too unbelievably dumbed down. The kid who leaves walks to where (with no water)?
Cates’ depiction of a nun running this mission was pretty average .
