I have had the time and opportunity to watched both Arjun Reddy ( the Telugu version) and Kabir Singh ( the remake).
1.Kabir Singh missed out on the little details that we did see in Arjun Reddy. The most visible one being, the anatomy of the hand. It helped with character building.
2. The songs were very warm and soothing in Arjun Reddy. Each one influencing you to get into the groove of the characters' feelings. While in Hindi, the number didn't make much impression. The sound quality also was a problem.
3.
A: The Hindi version has scenes addition, which I must tell wasn't just unnecessary but demeaning. Especially where Preeti, the female lead actress Kiara, runs after Kabir Singh played by Shahid Kapoor in an event to console him to listen to her, to calm down his temperament; contains a dialogue " tujhe kaun jaanta hai college mein, tu sirf Kabir ki Bandi hai" was degrading and totally unwanted because the movie not once hinted that this love story, even on consideration of the egoistic behaviour of the lead actor, addressed the matter of academic performance competence between the two.
B: Also, another scene where Kabir chases the maid was stretched to a minute or more which didn't seem to go naturally with his character especially when I have Arjun Reddy in comparison on my mind.
The director made it worse on his statement that he had to cut a few substantial scenes in the Hindi remake to make the movie 12 minutes shorter, all the more he stretched unwanted scenes n has infact added the unnecessary.
4. The set up of the movie of Arjun Reddy was far better than the one of Kabir Sigh.
A beach house made more sense than Dilli ki Sardi, because the plots in the movie is supportable of the story in Arjun Reddy.
5. The scene at the boys hostel was unreasonable and cheap.
No woman would have simply agreed to residing in a boys hostel.
I understand the limitation of the location for shooting in Mumbai but it still feels very narrow in the thoughts of the screenwriters to have agreed to the idea of this scene. How do you suppose one gets a permission?
All this while, the movie was trying to make logic of real world scenarios, while competing with typical generalisation of a hero and heroine and there you were going back on terms of a commercial show casing of a hero. ( Hero ko sab milta hai, Hero kabhi galat nahi hota). Where as, Arjun Reddy therefore becomes self supportable of its set up and location for naturally carrying a logic.
6. Missing out on the scenes from Arjun Reddy, showcasing the importance of women in general is a drawback for Kabir Singh. Kabir Singh should have included the parts of 'prostitute welcome' and 'shadi ka rishta' for the woman who played the best friend's sister.
7. Trimming pubic hair didn't feel necessary inclusion in the movie Kabir Singh. I am not sure if friendship had an extention of sharing a space where you even shaved your pubics infront of a person.
