One problem I've seen with many TV shows and movies around this time is that there's not a lot MADE TO BE CONSUMED by audiences aged 6-13. Many writers either write things that are inappropriate or too childish. This movie is perfect and SAFE for the older children of today to be introduced to sci-fi and space fantasy while being relevant to today's culture.
The only reasons people who don't like this movie are those who focus too much on one to three topics:
1. There is ONE gay character that has minimal interaction with her partner <30 seconds on screen. So those who chose to believe the LGBT community is lesser than and separate to hetero families, focus on this aspect.
2. The second complaint is that this Buzz doesn't follow the Toy Story movies or the old cartoon. Both of which started decades before this movie. Since Buzz looks different than Toy Story Buzz, they'll consider him different in some way. There won't be some big confusion of storylines. There are different actors and shows of Spider-Man, no problem. Older audiences should learn to let go.
3. This isn't meant to be a groundbreaking film like 2001: A Space Odyssey. There's humor, there's lightness, there are cliche themes. It is a good kids' movie and doesn't pretend to be anything else.
