By reading these reviews, it's apparent people aren't understanding that this wasn't a serious movie. And I don't mean "oh it doesn't have any funny parts" because it does, and the humor is obscure, dark and intellectual which I appreciate 💯. But what people don't realize is that the movie is a joke, is satire like say i.e. It's always sunny in Philadelphia or like the other space one with Alan Rickman and the crew "Galaxy Quest" I think? That was on the same wavelength. But yes, before you list this as a "Bad movie", keep in mind it's making fun of the shows and horrid sci Fi movies from the 70s to now, while wrapping it up in a dystopian fully military controlled basically making it a nightmare for the inhabitants. The cast and crew did a very good job, and considering it was 1997 (95'-96' while production) with the limited options on CG (this movie turns 30 here in a few years 😳) despite being a spoof, we got a decent sci Fi thriller comedy out of it 👍 The story was crazy but without this movie, we wouldn't gotten Dr Doogie/NPH back👾
