honestly 3.5 is more accurate but whatever. the movies plot in the beginning is very engaging, but i feel like our main character sorta got dummied down at the end. however the unique filming was also very great, itโs my favorite aspect of the movie but i wish there was more world building.
overall it was fun and i definitely got scared during the jump scares lol. the actors are also great, but i just think the script sorta makes them look bad. Personally, i believe Aaronโs actors acting was more authentic. (what a tongue twister lol)
cinematography was above average in my opinion. seeing as our mc is a photographer &/or videographer, i expected more beautiful shots of the setting (forest/cabin) because the place is really peaceful and pretty. so that was disappointing unfortunately.
honestly debating if i should watch the next movie: creep 2. maybe later
in-depth review: ***very minor spoilers ***
i would have loved to see background characters, or maybe some scenes before Aaron got to the cabin house like going to a coffee shop or something so we can at least give the movie more character and give Aaron more dimension as a person.
i think Josef was a good character, definitely not as lacking, but he was just a little unrealistic. like the way he pops up is of course to add to the fear factor/jump scares but there should be a level of continuity to that. he canโt just pop up in the 2 seconds it takes for Aaron to turn around, ya know?? like itโs a little weird and youโre basically bending the laws of physics to be able to do that.
the movie really does dumb down Aaron. found myself actually yelling at him alot during the movie, i donโt know if this is due to the era in which the movie came out (which is mid 2010s) but like, he canโt possibly be stupid enough to not tell anyone in his life whatโs going on,,, like?? and he should have called the police way earlier in the movie. another really stupid thing is when he finally did call them and the cops told him they couldnโt help him bc of the lack of accurate info Aaron had, why didnโt he show them the footage he had?!?!? like why not do that??? it contains Josefโs face CLEAR AS DAY. that part was my least favorite and probably the most cliche and stupidest scene ever.
so i get why Aaron did not dial 911 a second time because heโs as stated kind or better yet sympathetic towards Josef but to more prove that point, the movie shouldโve had a scene in the beginning that sort of shows off this character trait. like idk an awkward encounter that could have been resolved if Aaron was more confrontational or steadfast. that wouldโve have made for great foreshadowing, not to mention made Aaron seem more human.
