MAJOR disappointment. Can’t hold a candle to the original. Overlong by forty minutes, and filled with characters that you don’t care about. And SO SLOW. Final thirty minutes are good, but almost not worth the journey. O’Shea and Gerry are good (as usual), but they each look about forty pounds heavier than the original. **/****

It’s not the worst movie ever made, just one of the dumbest. The soundtrack is so muddled that it makes most of the dialogue unintelligible, which is actually okay, because the dialogue you can actually understand is terrible. Kristofferson, Bridges, Hurt, Walken, Masur and Waterston are actually good. Isabelle Huppert is so bad that it’s mind boggling. Beautiful scenery. That’s pretty much it.

Thirty minutes overlong. Why is this film over two hours? It should have been 90 minutes. Drags…and becomes a drag. The acting is great, but the editor should have taken a chainsaw to the second act.
