The movie opens really well creating a lot of tension and setting up the story fairly well however not much really happens afterwards. The cinematography, music and scenes are all very average but are completely overshadowed by 90 minutes of drawn out, frankly useless, dialogue which does nothing to build up the characters and story. The biggest issue however is that there are several unexplained things that happen in the film e.g., how did Elwood know about the safe full of money in Bernadette's home? What was the link between Bernadette and Lila? What was the significance of the aggressive man in Room 128 (we see him twice and no conclusion is reached)? Not much really happens throughout the entire film until the last 5 minutes and the ending just feels very flat and unimpactful. The film is saved by both Jon Bernthal and Christopher Abbott's performances which are wasted on a film that truly deserved better writing.
