This movie completely misses the mark when it comes to a tale of hope and survival. At no point did the viewer ever feel vested with the protagonist, his struggles or motivations for his actions as depicted in this release. There was so much opportunity, and every time, the story opted to go in the direction of a hackneyed and predictable direction which made the movie boring and hard to watch. Despite a spectacular performance by Hanks, the movie leaves you hopeless and empty with the viewer wondering “what was the point of this movie?”
