COMMERCIALS!!! ENDLESS COMMERCIALS!!!! I know you need to pay for the right to cover the Olympics and its expensive. I saw much less of the games than I wanted to because I just couldn’t sit through mind numbing commercials. It seemed I would watch a one minute event in track and field sandwiched between 10 minutes of commercials. I watched most of what I watched of the games in 4 minute summaries. I love the Olympics but I’m not going to give up my time and sanity to watch constantly interrupted events for commercials that have not changed my purchases of goods and services. Not one. The bright spot for me, if the limited that I watched, the commentary was excellent.
On net, I was truly disappointed with the experience. I would like to think that bringing the cost of the Olympics down significantly would mean less advertising but having worked in media I know that won’t mean less hours of advertising.
Honestly, I’m so saturated by advertising ever place my eyeballs land that I want to completely tune out and just read books. I certainly am much less of a consumer because of the saturation.
