I've played pokemon since gold/silver and like many others, I have been disappointed regarding many aspects of the modernization of pokemon. After completing the main storyline of PLA, I can confidently say that Game Freak is pushing itself towards a new direction that is both refreshing, exciting, and rewarding.
I enjoyed the perspective of being in Sinnoh's past and seeing POVs, characters, and events that translate to modern gen 4 that we all love. The game took a dive into lore and it ended fantastically. The gameplay and pokemon were so engaging and there is a feeling of absolute thrill when entering unexplored areas within the game and encountering a rare pokemon you had no idea was there. The attention to detail in the geography, music, etc. that Game Freak put into this game showed they truly cared and put in the effort to which we often fail to see. (Also the realism in the size of the pokemon in nature makes the game feel so much like the anime/manga)
While I do understand pitfalls in the game's graphics, I do not think it warrants extreme negative reviews or complete dismissal of the game where the premise and gameplay outshine recent pokemon games by far. This is the first pokemon game where I actively feel inspired to complete it 100%.
