Well i enjoyed the movie, seen it twice. It doesnt have to be relatable for someone to enjoy the movie.
But really us Asians, we do have to deal with high expectations from our parents. When Mei's mum said, "today an honor student, tomorrow the UN secretary general" i was like wow, yep thats my mum right there. Sharing about crushes is still a taboo. First scene, we are taught to respect our parents as they sacrificed a lot to put a roof over our heads and in return we do what they please.
It may not be relatable to some but on the other part of the globe its exactly what us as children are experiencing and the cycle continues. Our parents are too traditional while we are trying to break away from it. Bridging the gap is close to impossible. So yeah id give the movie 5/5. Kudos to those overachiever Asian kids out there! You rock!
