First of all, I have to say that the acting in this series is outstanding, from everyone. It is one of the most uncomfortable pieces of television you could watch, this being one of the main points i’m guessing, considering the whole show centres on often very disturbing, sometimes horrifying examples of racism that you are likely to see on TV. The series made me loathe every white character, as I should and root for the central family, as I should too but the individual horrors of the family members did nothing but confuse me and made me question the actual point of the series and this spoiled it for me. There were also a lot of traumatic scenes of racism which while important, feels like in 2021, very repetitive. Why can’t we see people of colour on tv be strong and thriving, not just struggling and beaten down? All in all, the show left me emotionally drained, angry, ashamed, sad and confused and just asking why?
