I like Aldis as an actor, and seeing him in new roles is great. I also met his mom, and she was super cool. That's the only reason I didn't give it lower stars. Aldis and the cast deserved better. Let me explain.
The cinematography is complete trash. The use of Chiaroscuro doesn't compliment the skin tone of the actors. Cinematic lighting for darker skin actually isn't that difficult. I assume a diffusion filter was used, making it incredibly challenging to remain attentive and distinguish faces and backgrounds. It takes away from what could have been beautiful cinematography, capturing many hues, shadows, bright spots, and a missed opportunity to use a โfilm lookโ while shooting.
I was so looking forward to the next iteration of Pattersonโs work, and this dimly lit throwback to the 80s film style sucks!
